He has had the honor and privilege of positively changing the lives of thousands of children and adults.
Kyoshi Maczuga has taught corporate self defense programs for companies like Entech, Freedom One Financial, and Compuware Corporations. He has trained and managed security teams all over metro Detroit at various nightclubs and has performed as a personal bodyguard both armed and unarmed. As a champion tournament fighter and as a bouncer/cooler in Detroit night clubs, he gained real life experience in defending himself.
In addition to founding Vortex Martial Arts and the World of Martial Arts, he currently serves as Executive Director for Impact Community Outreach – a national nonprofit organization that serves the needs of at risk youth, homeless children, underprivileged families, abused women, and substance addicts.
Having traveled, trained, and taught all over the world in different martial arts, Kyoshi Maczuga has earned black belt certifications in many of them. He has mixed bare knuckle, full contact fighting Karate (Ashihara and Enshin Karate) with Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Russian Sambo, and wrestling to form a complete personal protection and self improvement system. This system is called “Vortex Martial Arts”. In Vortex Martial Arts all technique that is unnecessary or forced has been discarded.
In classical styles of martial arts, the bigger stronger person usually wins. Because of this, the Vortex system was developed wherein the smaller person, using good footwork, body movement, and leverage can position themselves to the side or rear of their opponent (blind spot positioning). When you combine this with the balance manipulation of a push – or a pull in a circular motion, the centrifugal force that is generated places the practitioner in the optimum position for an unseen attack against an opponent. The opponent finds themselves pulled into a circular vortex, with no way of defending against the coming attack(s). Although the concept of positioning is common in many martial arts, Vortex Martial Arts is one of the only ones to use it as its central theme. This is the basis of the Vortex self protection system.
Vortex Martial Arts teaches five sets of Kata or Forms – Shoshin (beginner), Kihon (basic), Nage (throwing), Kumite (sparring), and Jissen (street fighting). Each move of every Kata can be used in a real self-protection situation.
